A FANTASTIC FUTURE

I’m raising funds for the RBWH Foundation.

In June this year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
There was no family history of breast cancer, and my only symptoms was a small lump under my right armpit.  Following advice from my GP, I had a mammogram.
From that day, my life has changed.  The diagnosis is just a glitch, a roadblock in my amazing life journey.

I want to raise awareness and give back to the hospital, its patient care, innovative medical treatments and research.

It's quite a journey. Nothing I ever thought I'd be going through.  I'm so grateful for the love and support of family, friends and colleagues.  I'm so grateful for the incredible patient care that I am receiving.

I've worked in the public health system for over 15 years.  I understand the dedication, the tireless (and sometimes thankless) work of our teams.

Your generosity buys time for researchers to develop breakthrough treatments.  Time for doctors to consider new diagnoses and provide the best possible care for their patients.  And time for families to continue to enjoy every precious moment with the people they love, hopeful about a fantastic future.

All money donated to my fundraising page will assist in advancing life-saving research and patient care at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Complementary therapies improving my health and well-being

Acupuncture has long been a complementary therapy for me and my family for over 40 years.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I wanted to include acupuncture as a way to improve my overall immunity and well-being.
I trust my family (sister - Cheran Lennon and nephew - Brendan Lennon) from Get Well Naturally clinic who tailored a treatment plan unique to my needs, giving balance and was complementary to my chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

As promised (although I haven't reached my target yet), my son cut off his mullet in support of my dedication to raise funds for the RBWH Foundation.

I'm almost finished radiation treatment! 💖
A big shout out to the RBWH Radiation Treatment Unit team 🙌
I was very nervous about radiation....the complexity of treatment and the machine...and not to mention my vulnerability.  
But as usual, the impeccable professionalism and caring nature of everyone involved has me "feeling right at home" from the moment I arrive every day for treatment.  
I can only imagine the cost of purchasing and maintaining these machines, and the research for innovative treatments.

A big shout-out to my Breast Cancer Care Coordinator, Cancer Care Services.  Dan has been available anytime to navigate my questions and queries during treatment.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Nursing team who have treated me with care and compassion.  
To the medical teams who manage their busy days to see patients prior to treatment.  
To the Admin teams that keep the cancer care services running.
I know all about, and I see the work done behind the scenes to manage a very demanding environment.
And finally, a shout-out to the Volunteers who keep us nourished during treatment.

Tuesday 29 October 2024 was my last chemotherapy treatment!
Next step is Radiation.
