A huge shout out to our inspirational Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) health professionals - or Team Royal as they’re affectionately known - for putting the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’. Team Royal is helping support two major RBWH Foundation’s campaigns – Flex for Lex and the 2023 RBWH Foundation Giving Day.
All eyes are on the prize, which is to raise funds to advance patient care and life-saving research at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).
Team Royal trains, Intensive Care Families Gain!
Flex for Lex is our month-long arm workout challenge, raising funds throughout April for WeCU, Australia’s first support program for families with loved ones in Intensive Care (ICU).?
The campaign is named after RBWH traumatic brain injury patient, Alexa Leary. Lex became a committed RBWH ambassador after overcoming incredible odds to recover from a serious cycling accident in mid-2021. She’s now well on the way to representing Australia in swimming at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
It’s not too late to join the Flex for Lex challenge, or to donate to your favourite Team Royal ambassador at www.flexforlex.com.au
- The RBWH Maxillofacial Department ‘Chomp Champions’, led by Danilo Carluccio (pictured above), are currently sixth on the Flex for Lex Teams leaderboard
- Nurse James McCallum from RBWH Emergency's 'Team Do You Even Lift', is putting in a fantastic effort, almost halfway to his target
- And the ICU Corridor Crew is also putting in a sterling effort!
An extra Special mention goes to RBWH ICU patient, Tiernan Gamble, who survived an aneurysm while five months pregnant and on April 11 this year delivered her healthy miracle baby, Jack. Tiernan has raised more than $3000 – what a staggering achievement.
Go Team Royal!
RBWH Foundation Giving Day
Save the Date - the RBWH Foundation Giving Day is being held on Wednesday 14 June and competition is already heating up for the fabled Giving Day Cup.
RBWH Foundation Giving Day is a 24-hour event that gives Australians the chance to say thank you to RBWH by showing gratitude and raising much-needed funds for world-class research and patient care.
The RBWH Foundation is busy organising a full program of events to raise spirits and raise funds on the biggest day of their fundraising calendar. Seven’s Sunrise has again confirmed it will kickstart the appeal.
Every year, Team Royal is encouraged to ‘Compete for the Cup’, the Giving Day trophy presented to our healthcare fundraising champions in Individual and Team categories. Allied Health wrested the Cup from Cancer Care in 2022 and the competition is again looking fierce.
RBWH Clinical Nurse Meg is leading the charge for the ICU team, organising a fundraiser every month in the lead-up to Giving Day, starting with a soon-to-be-infamous pie drive with Yatala Pies? Keep an eye out for their Easter raffle, second hand book sale and sausage sizzle.
Assistant Physio Reece Crawford is again strapping on the running shoes, leading the RBWH Physiotherapy & Friends Team in the Brisbane Marathon Festival on June 4. Their ambitious goal is to raise $3000. Plenty of room to be a part of the team, just click here!
And 2022 Individual Giving Day Cup winner, Helen Woolley, from Dietetics and Food Services is also making an impressive start to her fundraising campaign. Watch this space!
From the entire RBWH Foundation team, a huge thank to everyone who joins with us in our mission to advance patient care and life-saving research at RBWH. You help us make the impossible, possible!
