Did you know the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) provides a Justice of the Peace (JP) service thanks to the RBWH Foundation?
Meet Nicola, an accountant and JP volunteer, who has been offering her services to the RBWH community for over two years.
As a JP, Nicola and her colleagues provide services all over the Herston Health Precinct. As well as witnessing signatures and documents from the JP desk near RBWH admissions, she often visits patients in the wards and provides bedside services to those who are unable to come down to the ground floor.
When reflecting on the significance of volunteering, Nicola emphasised the power of giving back to the community, noting that many people were pleasantly surprised to receive the service for free - something that is unique to Australia's Justice of the Peace volunteering system.
"I personally started volunteering because it is a good way to give back to the community," she expressed. "And...since I work from home, I also have the time to volunteer and it allows me to get out of the house once every two weeks".
If you're thinking of volunteering as a JP or as part of the RBWH Foundation Compassion Crew, Nicola has some great advice for you: "I can't recommend it enough - we're really included here."
Thank you, Nicola, for your dedication and expertise as a JP volunteer!
