It was all hands – and fins – on deck at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) this week to help Physiotherapy Assistant Reece Crawford celebrate ten years of survival since the road accident that almost killed him.
Dolphins NRL Mascot Phinny joined RBWH Physiotherapy, Allied Health and Neurosurgery to help Reece complete a staggering 3650 push ups, one for each day since his accident. Teamwork also raised close to $1700 for the RBWH Foundation.
“We gave ourselves an hour to complete the challenge and it only took half an hour,” said Reece.
“Physiotherapy are an incredible bunch: the support I get from this department blows me away every time. They are always ready to step up and help me out.”
In 2014, Reece learned to walk and talk again after suffering traumatic brain injuries in a motor scooter accident. RBWH not only gave Reece back his life, but the hospital also inspired a career change from car salesman to Physiotherapy Assistant.
Since then, Reece has become renowned for his marathon fundraising feats that support patient care initiatives and life-saving research through the RBWH Foundation.
“I am so thankful to be alive, every day, that I don’t know if I feel any different today,” said Reece.
“It’s just another day worth celebrating!”
