2020 Year of the Nurse and Midwife
Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) is a world-class health facility, providing excellence in nursing and midwifery care to patients for 150 years. The RBWH is part of Metro North Hospital and Health Service (MNHHS), the largest and most diverse health service in Queensland. They represent one of Australia’s most dynamic nursing and midwifery workforces, employing more than 3,200 nurses and midwives in clinical, management, education and research roles.
2020 is a special year for the hospital which is celebrating the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife and the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. If you work at a hospital or have an interest in history, a visit to the ‘Museum of Nursing History’ is a must-do. Regularly staffed by volunteer past nurses, the museum is a treasure trove of historical documents, artefacts and memorabilia. It was fascinating seeing all the examples of uniforms and equipment which changed across different eras of nursing and medicine.
You can find the museum at Building 19, at the RBWH, Herston. Open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11am-2pm. Make sure you let us know if you do visit and share your experience on our RBWH Foundation Facebook page.
