Getting started

When and where is the Royal Run for Research?

add remove

The Royal Run for Research is a virtual challenge that starts on 1 April and finishes on the 30 April.

Participants are asked to set their own kilometre goal then to walk or run anywhere and anytime throughout April and help raise funds for life-saving medical research.

You can set your kilometre goal after you register to participate.

Can I run as part of a team?

add remove

Yes absolutely! Simply select 'team' during the registration process and follow the prompts to set your team page up.

The best news? You don't need to live nearby or all run at the same time! Since this is a virtual challenge, simply log your kms as you go and they will all contribute to your team tally.

How far do I have to run?

add remove

The Royal Run for Research is a fundraising challenge not a race. You can decide how many kilometres you want to commit to for the month of April. Click here to see a quick guide on setting a goal.

That said - the further you go, the more likely you are to garner support from friends and family.

Want to change your goal mid challenge? No problems! Simply log into your dashboard and update your fitness activity.

How much does it cost to enter?

add remove

The Royal Run for Research is a FREE event open to individuals, teams and corporates. To register visit here

When do registrations close?

add remove

There is no 'official' close date on registrations - if you wanted to you could register in the last few days of April!

However - to fully appreciate and participate in the Royal Run for Research, you are best to register BEFORE 1 April, when the challenge kicks off.

Fundraising

Why should I fundraise?

add remove

The RBWH Foundation exists to fund patient care and lifesaving research projects across Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH), Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS), Redcliffe Hospital and the many Institutes and Centres across the Herston Health Precinct.

RBWH has a global reputation for excellence and world-leading discoveries that result in innovations and improvements in patient care. Yet, many of these discoveries simply would not happen without community funding from generous supporters such as yourself.

What does the money I fundraise go towards?

add remove

All money raised through the Royal Run for Research will help to fund crucial advancements in patient care and medical research that simply would not be possible without your support.

The money raised will be distributed to clinicians and researchers to fund projects through the RBWH Foundation Grants that will improve health outcomes and help to save lives, both now and in the future.

For more information on projects that we have recently funded please visit our Project Hub - https://www.rbwhfoundation.com.au/project-hub

How do I share my fundraising page?

add remove

When you register for the Royal Run for Research you will be set up with your own personal dashboard with the feature of sharing your page on multiple social media platforms.

Simply share the link with your friends and family and it will take them straight to your fundraising page.

Are donations tax-deductible?

add remove

Yes. All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

Individuals donating through your fundraising page will receive an electronic receipt directly to their email address provided.

Can you help me with fundraising?

add remove

We sure can! We understand that asking friends and family for money can be tricky. That's why we've created a bunch of free resources to help you on your fundraising journey and give you the best chance of success! Visit our Tips and Tools page to learn more.

Can I make a self-donation?

add remove

Yes! In fact, this is the simplest way to encourage others to give.

To make a self-donation, simply register for the challenge and select 'self-donation' in the prompts. Alternatively, you can donate anytime before the challenge ends through your fundraising page, after completing the registration process.

How do I collect donations?

add remove

Donations can be made online through your personal fundraising page. Any one, including yourself, can donate through this page.

When you register as a fundraiser you will also receive a ‘Right to Fundraise’ letter which has our bank account details, so that you can deposit any cash you have raised into our bank account. Alternatively, you can deposit via your self-created fundraising page.

Fitness

How do I track the kilometres I run or walk?

add remove

Most GPS enabled devices like fitness wristbands or watches will enable you to track your kilometres for the Royal Run. Strava, Fitbit and mapmyfitness should automatically sync with your fundraising page and add to your kilometres each time you record an activity.

To get started, login to your Royal Run for Research profile page and go to the 'My Fitness Activity' tab to connect to your preferred fitness app and follow the prompts.

Sounds too complicated? Never fear - you can also manually add an activity through the 'My Fitness Activity' tab on your profile page.

I just recorded an activity but it's not appearing on my profile?

add remove

It generally takes up to 24 hours for fitness activity to display on your profile.

Alternatively, you can manually add your distance tracking via the 'My fitness activity' tab on your dashboard.

If it is still not appearing after this time, please contact our support team at fundraise@rbwhfoundation.com.au for assistance.

Do I have to exercise every day?
add remove
Not at all. This is a personal challenge so however you decide to tackle it is entirely up to you. Whether you choose to move a bit every day, or do it all in a couple of big sessions, the most important thing is hitting your monthly target.

I've reached my distance goal early. Now what?

add remove

Congratulations on hitting your fitness goal early!

The challenge doesn't officially end until 31 April. If you want to keep going, why not increase your distance goal? Simply log onto your personal dashboard and update as you go.
