Since 1985, the RBWH Foundation has proudly supported patient care initiatives and life-saving research undertaken by the dedicated and committed clinicians of Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).
Local research with global impact
The RBWH, Queensland’s largest hospital, has a global reputation for excellence and world-leading discoveries that result in innovations and improvements in patient care. RBWH staff provide support and expertise to neighbouring countries, respond to natural disasters and train some of the world’s upcoming researchers. RBWH has over 500 clinical researchers and holds partnerships with 14 universities and 3 TAFE providers.
Locally, in an average year, close to 90,000 people present to RBWH Emergency and Trauma; over 27,000 surgeries are performed; more than 200,000 cancer care treatments, consultations and admissions occur; and over 700 research projects are undertaken.

Jamieson Trauma Institute
The Jamieson Trauma Institute has revolutionised how trauma services are delivered, bringing together a unique and integrated group of services including intensive care, burns, rehabilitation and military medicine.
STARS (Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service)
STARS is a new 182-bed public specialist rehabilitation and surgical service which delivers acute long-stay specialist geriatric and rehabilitation care, and elective short-stay surgery services.
Herston Biofabrication Institute (HBI)
HBI is the first institute of its kind – advancing knowledge and technology in 3D scanning, 3D modelling and 3D printing of medical devices, bone, cartilage and human tissue.
Perinatal Research Centre
The Perinatal Research Centre is committed to improving perinatal health through world class biomedical and clinical research, and aims to translate research advances into clinical practice and better health outcomes for mothers and babies.
Herston Infectious Diseases Institute
Herston Infectious Diseases Institute provides a vehicle to drive local, national and international collaboration that advances infectious disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and tracking.
First People’s Health and Research Alliance
The Alliance leads world-class research and evaluation to substantially accelerate Australia’s progress towards closing the gap in life expectancy and achieving health equality for urban First Peoples in greater Brisbane north.
Burns Trauma and Critical Care Research Centre
The Burns, Trauma and Critical Care Research Centre conducts research to advance treatment and care for burns and critically ill or injured patients through world-class, evidence-based, clinical practice.
