Join the RBWH Foundation Compassion Crew
The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Compassion Crew are volunteers who work closely with patients and their families in clinical and non-clinical areas of the hospital. Pre-COVID-19 the Compassion Crew were involved in meaningful and purposeful activities enhancing each patient’s experience at RBWH. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions all current RBWH Compassion Crew members have had to stay at home due to their particular vulnerability to the virus. Currently the Hospital is extremely busy with their regular clinical load as well as navigating the COVID-19 restrictions. The RBWH Foundation is seeking an emergency Compassion Crew to assist us now and, in the future, to support our staff, patients and their families.
Emergency Compassion Crew Role
This emergency Compassion Crew would assist the RBWH in a variety of roles to help our patients, their families and staff. The role is to:
• Steward all hospital entrances and the concierge desk. Ensure all staff, patients and visitors sign in with their staff identification, QR Code or sign on sheet, help hand sanitise and apply PPE when required
• Deliver patient care packages. The packages are delivered to the concierge desk by family and friends who at present are unable to visit their loved ones. Our patients are very lonely and look forward to receiving their care packages.
• Wayfinding for patients. Patients at present are limited in who may accompany them to their appointments at the Hospital. The Compassion Crew help guide patients to their appointments and offer both support and companionship.
Morning and afternoon across Monday to Friday. Shift lengths can and will vary but the majority are as follows:
• 7.00am to 11.00am
• 11.00am to 3.00pm
• 3.00pm to 7.00pm
All Compassion Crew members will complete a simple code of conduct and infection control training run by the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
You don’t need to pack lunch! All Compassion Crew members are allocated a $10 RBWH Canteen voucher each day they volunteer.
All Compassion Crew members will be given a Ruby RBWH Foundation T-Shirt . These shirts look great with a smart pair of jeans.
