They came, they ran, and they nailed it … A world record, a gruelling one million metres underfoot and $300,000 raised to enable significant improvements in the management of melanoma patients at RBWH.
Twelve doctors from all over Queensland trained and raised funds for nine months ahead of the gruelling three-day challenge in October where they ran one million meters on treadmills at RBWH in the fastest time ever recorded.
If fact, the team smashed the world record by more than 11 hours completing the mammoth run in 71 hours 41 min and 11 sec.

Million Metres for Melanoma is a group of extraordinary men who are aiming to run a million metres from the 16 October to the 19 October on a treadmill in the main foyer of the RBWH. They are also aiming to raise $250,000 in the memory of Pheobe Eales who lost her battle with melanoma in 2014. All funds raised will assist in establishing a melanoma unit at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Sadly many families lose their precious babies during pregnancy and shortly after birth. Although the statistics on infant death have improved significantly over the past 100 years, pregnancy and infant loss is still prevalent in our society with 1 in 4 confirmed pregnancies ending in miscarriage before 20 weeks and 1 in 120 births resulting in stillbirth or a newborn death.
International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on October 15th is for us to ensure that although they may be gone, these babies are never forgotten. It is a day to reflect, show support, raise awareness and remember those who have lost.

The Royal Run for Research is over again for another year. A huge thanks to all the runners and walkers who joined us at Kurilpa Point Park on Sunday 7 October to tackle either the 8km or 6km course to help raise funds for medical research conducted at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. Thanks also goes to RBWH's Physiotherapy who have been running this event for the past 30 years!

Applications are now closed for RBWH Foundation's 2019 Susan Suduk OneDay to Conquer Cancer Diamond Care Grants (closed 15 April 2019).
The grants are open to all disciplines including Medical, Nursing, Allied Health and Health Practitioners as long as the CIA (or person responsible for the project) holds Queensland salaried or formal honorary appointment to RBWH.
Applications must support RBWH's vision of providing the Diamond Standard of Cancer Care to its patients with grants of up to $40,000 available for research, people support, equipment and infrastructure.

Applications are now open for the 2019 Postgraduate Scholarships (opened 16 April 2018). Applications close on 29 June 2018.
The scholarships are for medical, nursing, allied health, health practitioner and other graduates working at RBWH and who are wishing to undertake a research higher degree.
A number of research scholarships are supported each year. The scholarships are based on merit and are awarded on a competitive basis.
