Every year, RBWH cares for more than 600,000 people.
That's 600,000 reasons to give....who's your reason?
Every year, Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH) cares for more than 600,000 people - providing world-class medical treatment, care, and comfort to dads, mums, children, and loved ones in our community.
This RBWH Foundation Giving Day, we are asking you to make a donation by 12 June so it can be DOUBLED by our generous Giving Partners, going TWICE as far to improve advancements in patient care and life-saving medical research for those who need it most.
What is RBWH Foundation Giving Day?
The RBWH Foundation Giving Day is an annual event that gives Australians the chance to say thank you to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH), STARS, and other prestigious research Institutes and Centres at the Herston Health Precinct — showing gratitude and raising much-needed funds for worldclass research and patient care.
Franky’s story
Franky Nawei was a young and healthy IT Project Manager who loved spending time with friends and volunteering at a community centre. In 2020, life changed forever when, at age 32, he was diagnosed with a lethal form of blood cancer.
His immediate reaction was simply, why me?
One year later, Franky became one of the first patients in Australia to receive breakthrough CAR-T cell therapy thanks to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH), the only centre in Queensland that offers this treatment. A small sample of blood was reprogrammed to attack the cancer and was returned for infusion back into Franky’s body. It was expensive but it worked.
“People who donate to medical research have a very compassionate mind where they donate money or time that actually gives people like me a second chance at their life.”
“Thankful is just a word, but I am very, very and truly grateful to have their gift of research,” Franky said.

Beaudine's story
Watch Beaudines full story.
“My parents tried seven different hospitals and only Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Brisbane had the expertise to save my leg. We were swimming about an hour south of Darwin, when I felt this big rip on my leg. The water just turned red. About a month later, it swelled up and was infected. There was an abscess. I went through 13 operations on my leg in three years, well actually I lost count after a while. I got sepsis. I was ready to get rid of my leg,” Beaudine said.
“When I got to RBWH, I was greeted with five different teams of doctors – orthopaedics, infectious disease, immunology, plastics, medical – I could breathe again. It was like a breath of fresh air!
They didn’t just save my leg, they gave me back my life and I’m always going to be so thankful for that!”

The Barnett family story
Not one, not two, but three generations of the Brisbane-based Barnett family were urgently screened and diagnosed with life-threatening brain aneurysms after daughter Annie, now 23, underwent emergency surgery and complex treatment at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) for two ruptured aneurysms in 2021.
“Until all of this happened to our family, we really didn’t have much knowledge on how dangerous aneurysms are or even what they were,” said Carol Barnett.
RBWH is a national leader in aneurysm research and with the support of RBWH Foundation funding has developed software to improve detection of aneurysms – ideal for use in regional and remote hospitals where neurosurgical expertise is lacking.
“We didn’t realise that most medical research is funded by grants and that the doctors that do this amazing work have to apply for them,” said Carol.
